Birth Defects of Skin

The commonest birth defects are over the skin, these are in the form of pigment changes. A patch of dark skin, or a large black mole with or without hairs(Hairy Nevus), Red blue patch(Port wine stain) over skin, or there can be raised red patches looking like strawberry skin(Strawberry hemangioma). These birth marks may not be present at birth they often become prominent in the first few months of life and then remain like that for life.

Purpose: To remove the patches from the skin without producing any scar or mark.

Procedure: Most pigmented birth marks respond to Q switched Nd Yag laser, and are treated by giving several sittings. With each sitting the mark becomes lighter in shade.
